Keep all your TTRG supplies in one place
Techniques used: patternmaking, machine sewing, hand sewing
The prompt for this project was to create a product inspired by ritual, habit, or routine. I decided to use my weekly Dungeons and Dragons games as my starting point. I wanted to create something to keep everything needed to play and run the game in one place. After interviewing my friends and other players, I got the idea to create a specialized bag that unfolds into a DM screen with removable dice trays.
This was my first time drafting a pattern from scratch; thankful it was mostly rectangles. I created a few paper models for this bag before running to the fabric store. Since it was to unfold into a functioning screen, I had to make sure it could do that, but also be a secure and functional bag.
I decided on a messenger bag style made up of three seprate “boxes”. The largest box would hold rulebooks, notes, a computer, and large props. The smaller ones would have removable padded dividers to hold miniatures and dice sets. The lids for these smaller boxes were fully removable and folded into dice rolling trays. When it came to fabric, I had to have some fun. I chose an unassuming duck canvas for the exterior, and the most obnoxious dragon fabric I could find for the interior. The flap is set up so when the bag is in use, blue dragons are on display for all to see.
